A ride-on car makes a good gift when four things line up: a model listed for the child’s age and weight, delivery that arrives well before the day, an adult who has assembled and fully charged it in advance, and a plan for the first ride, including a helmet for faster vehicles. Most problems on a birthday or holiday morning come from the last three, not from picking the wrong car. This checklist covers each step.
1. Choose by age and weight, not by looks
Gift buyers often pick on style or color and check the specs later. Do it the other way round. Find out the child’s age and roughly what they weigh, then filter by the listed age range and maximum rider weight. A model with some weight headroom will last longer.
| Child’s age | Gift that usually fits | Where to start |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 | Convertible push car with a parent handle | Push cars and strollers |
| 2–3 | Low-speed bumper car or foot-powered push car | Bumper cars |
| 3–5 | 12V car with a parental remote | 12V ride-on cars |
| 5–8 | Car, jeep or UTV listed to age 8, or a kids’ go-kart from 5–6 | Jeeps and trucks |
| 8 and up | 24V go-karts, ATVs and dirt bikes rated for older riders | Go-karts |
For model-by-model detail, see the best ride-on toys for toddlers and the best ride-on cars for 5- to 8-year-olds. Two other things are worth checking before you order:
- Will siblings share it? If so, a two-seater avoids arguments. Add both children’s weights together and compare against the limit. See best two-seater ride-on cars.
- Where will it be driven? A small car on a grassy yard can disappoint. If the gift will mostly be used on a lawn, read best ride-on cars for grass first.
If the child loves a particular brand, a licensed model such as a Mercedes, Lamborghini or Range Rover adds real-car styling. Our licensed vs unlicensed guide explains what that does and doesn’t change.
2. Work out the delivery timing backwards
Shipped orders have two stages, and both count in business days. Under our shipping policy:
- Orders are typically processed within 1–3 business days after payment is confirmed.
- Delivery is estimated at 3–10 business days after the order ships, depending on location and item size.
- Orders are not shipped or delivered on weekends or holidays, and processing can take longer during busy periods.
Together that is roughly 4 to 13 business days, close to three calendar weeks at the long end. For a gift, aim to order at least three to four weeks before the day. Order even earlier for December holidays, when the busy-period caveat applies. These are estimates, not guarantees. Shipping within the US is free.
Large ride-ons arrive by freight, at the curb
Jeeps, go-karts and other large items ship by freight carrier. The carrier contacts you to schedule an appointment, and delivery is usually curbside. That means:
- Someone needs to be home for the appointment, and an adult has to move the box from the curb into a garage or house.
- Inspect the box when it arrives. If it looks damaged, note it on the delivery receipt and take photos before signing. Report damage to support@carzonetoys.com within 48 hours.
- If you are sending the gift to someone else’s address, check they know a large delivery is coming and can be there for the appointment.

Buying in Georgia? Skip the shipping wait
If you are near metro Atlanta or north Georgia, you have faster options. You can visit our Douglasville, Dawsonville or Stonecrest store, see the model in person and take it home the same day. You can also reserve online and use free in-store pickup, or ask about free local delivery across metro Atlanta and north Georgia. Call (470) 399-8255 to check which store has the model you want before you drive over.
3. Hide the box and plan where to assemble it
A boxed jeep or two-seater is hard to hide in a closet. Plan a spot before it arrives, such as a garage corner, a shed or a relative’s house. You will also need a clear floor area to assemble it. A cover or tarp over the box hides the product photos printed on it. For a surprise reveal, assemble the car somewhere the child won’t look.
4. Assemble and fully charge it before the big day
This is the step most often left too late. Unbox the car several days early so you have time to check for missing or damaged parts and contact us if something is wrong.
- Assemble it fully. Follow the manual and our ride-on car assembly guide. Check that wheels, steering and seat belts are secure.
- Charge it fully before the first ride. Charging times vary a lot between models. In our range, listed times run from about 3–4 hours for the 12V R3 Super electric bike to 8–12 hours for the 24V 2129 4×4 ATV. Follow your model’s manual for the first charge and allow at least a full night. The battery and charging guide explains how to look after the battery afterwards.
- Test it yourself. Check forward, reverse and every speed setting. If the car has a parental remote, pair it and try the stop function before the child sits in it.
- Keep the charger and manual together so the car can be recharged after a long first day.
5. Add a helmet and plan the first ride
For go-karts, ATVs, dirt bikes and scooters, a helmet belongs in the gift. The listing for our 24V Drift Kids Go-Kart, for example, calls for a properly fitted helmet and closed-toe shoes. Look for a helmet labeled as meeting the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) bicycle helmet standard, and make sure it fits snugly and sits level on the head.
Plan the first ride for a flat, open area away from the street, at the lowest speed setting, with an adult holding the remote if there is one. The ride-on safety checklist lists what to check before every ride.

Frequently asked questions
How far ahead should I order a ride-on car for Christmas?
Allow more than the standard estimate. Processing takes 1–3 business days and delivery 3–10 business days after shipping. Neither stage runs on weekends or holidays, and both can slow down in busy periods. Ordering in November gives you room to assemble and charge the car before the day.
What if the box arrives damaged?
Note the damage on the delivery receipt, take photos before signing and email support@carzonetoys.com within 48 hours.
Can I see the car before buying it as a gift?
Yes. Both Georgia stores have models on display and offer test drives. If the child is with you, they can sit in a few models to check the fit.
